Why the lock screen?

Always visible

No unlocking, no app to open. Your QR is right there.

Works offline

The QR code is just an image on your screen — no internet needed to show it.

Privacy-first

Share your QR instead of your phone number. You control what people see.

Conversation starter

People notice a QR on a lock screen. It sparks curiosity.

How to set it up

It takes about 2 minutes. Here's what to do.

First: get your QR code

If you don't have one yet, it's free and takes 30 seconds.

1
Go to pingable.me and sign in (Google or email — free).
2
Create a QR code and choose how people can contact you (anonymous chat, WhatsApp, email, phone, or any link).
3
Download the QR code as a PNG image to your phone.

iPhone

iOS 16 or later

1
Make sure the QR code PNG is saved to your Photos app.
2
Long-press on your lock screen until you see the customisation view. Tap the + button.
3
Choose Photos and select your QR code image.
4
Pinch and drag to position the QR code in the lower-centre of the screen — below the clock, above the flashlight and camera buttons.
5
Tap Add, then choose Set as Lock Screen.
6
Lock your phone and test it — ask someone to scan the QR with their camera app.

Alternative: Open Settings → Wallpaper → Add New Wallpaper, tap Photos, and select your QR image. Same result.

Android

Android 12 or later

1
Make sure the QR code PNG is saved to your phone's gallery.
2
Open Settings → Wallpaper & style (or long-press the home screen and tap Wallpaper).
3
Tap My photos and select your QR code image.
4
Choose Lock screen only so it doesn't replace your home screen wallpaper too.
5
Drag and resize to position the QR code in the lower half of the screen, centred.
6
Tap Set wallpaper. Lock your phone and test it with a scan.

Note: Exact menu names vary by manufacturer (Samsung, Pixel, etc.) but the steps are the same.

Tips for best results

  • Position the QR in the lower-centre of the screen — this avoids the clock and is the easiest area to scan.
  • Use a simple, high-contrast background. The default pingable.me QR (dark on white) works perfectly.
  • Keep the QR code large — it should be at least a quarter of the screen height.
  • Test it! Ask someone to point their phone camera at your lock screen to make sure it scans.
  • If auto-brightness dims your screen too much, turn it up before someone scans.
